Allergens & Food Safety

Please read this before you order.

Last updated: September 10, 2026

We bake everything ourselves, by hand, in a small home kitchen, not a large allergen-controlled facility. That's part of what makes our products what they are, but it also means we need to be upfront with you about allergens and cross-contact before you order. Please take a moment to read this page, especially if you or someone you're buying for has a food allergy or intolerance.

1. Our kitchen

Aunty Snalex Bakery operates from a registered home kitchen. We're registered with the NVWA and follow HACCP-based food safety practices, including dedicated business-only fridge space, cupboards, and utensils. That said, it's still a home kitchen shared with our family, not a dedicated allergen-free facility, and it's too small to fully separate allergens from one another.

2. Allergens used in our products

Depending on the item and flavour, our recipes contain:

  • Gluten (wheat flour)
  • Dairy (butter, milk, cream)
  • Eggs
  • Tree nuts (almonds, pistachios, walnuts, depending on the flavour)
  • Chocolate/cocoa

Exact allergens vary by product and flavour. Always check the label on the item itself, and ask us directly if you're not sure.

3. Allergens that may be present (cross-contact)

Because we work from a shared home kitchen, we can't guarantee any product is completely free of an allergen, even ones that aren't used in that recipe:

  • Soy is used elsewhere in our home for family meals and may be present through cross-contact, even though it isn't a recipe ingredient.
  • Peanuts and sesame are not used in any of our recipes, but because this is a shared kitchen, we can't guarantee they're entirely absent.
If you or someone you're ordering for has a severe or life-threatening allergy, please contact us directly before placing an order so we can talk it through honestly. We'd rather have that conversation upfront than have you find out something doesn't work for you after the fact. In some cases, we may not be a safe option, and that's okay, we'll tell you.

4. Labels

Every item we sell is labelled with its ingredients, allergens, and a best-before date. Please check the label before eating, even if you've ordered the same item from us before, as recipes and sourcing can change.

5. Freshness & storage

Pie bars & cookies

  • Best enjoyed within 4 days of your ship or pickup date (5 days from the bake date).
  • Store in a cool, dry place in the packaging provided.
  • Texture may soften slightly after day 5. This is a freshness change, not a food safety concern within the stated window.

Custom cakes

  • Keep refrigerated at below 7°C.
  • Best eaten within 2 days of pickup.
  • If you won't finish it in time, wrap the box tightly in cling film and freeze for up to 2 weeks.
These timeframes are based on our own testing at home, not a food safety lab. If a product ever looks, smells, or tastes off before its best-before date, please don't eat it, and let us know.

6. Your responsibility when ordering

Please tell us about any allergies or intolerances before you order, not after. We're always happy to answer questions about ingredients, but we can only account for what we know about. If you have a severe allergy and haven't heard back from us confirming we can safely accommodate it, please don't place the order yet, just reach out first.

7. Questions?

If anything on this page isn't clear, or you want to talk through a specific allergy or intolerance before ordering, email us. We'd always rather answer a question upfront than have something go wrong.
